Premier LARP of Northwest Indiana
Bryden’s Ferry, town of new beginnings. Brought together by the whims of Fate, intrepid adventurers must now forge new alliances in a land dominated by competing powers and rife with both subtle tension and open conflict. Some manipulate from the shadows, some speak with their blade, some wield mighty magics, and still others prefer to craft, trade, or gamble. As well, deities seek the worship (and sometimes the assistance) of mortals to aid in their ever shifting machinations. All this and more awaits you at Kanarak. Where do you stand?
We offer an open ended system which allows character customization for all play styles. If this is your first LARP, we invite you to take a look at our getting started section. We then would encourage you to choose which race would fit your character choice best and combine that with which the skills and actions that define your character.
What kind of LARP is Kanarak?
Kanarak is what’s considered a high fantasy medieval LARP. Our setting is much like that of many fantasy novels and movies; with such things as dwarves, magic, and more being quite common in the world. Our main goal is to provide an experience for our players that makes them feel like they are in another world. Our players, as well as our staff, are costumed in appropriate garb for the fantasy genre, and stay in character for the full game from beginning to end. This keeps everyone immersed in the fantasy, allowing people to forget about the outside world.
We are a combat LARP as well with a combat system using soft foam weapons, packets filled with bird seed for spells, and padded arrows. Our world is reactive to the character decisions, meaning you will have a real impact on the world around you, so that it feels like you are a living, breathing part of it.
What our players say
Kanarak, to me, is a group of great people and friends from all around the state and even the country that I've had the pleasure of getting to know. It's where we all collectively let our problems go for a short while and just have fun with it.
Stop worrying about your problems. Worry about orc raids instead.
Larp is getting to be that person you always wanted to be, Kanarak is a community of like minded individuals who are there for you.
Kanarak is more than a game to me. Here, I am comfortable being something other than myself with others who feel the same way. I've never been to a place where so much love and creativity is shared among those who may not be me but are like me. Filled with warm, inviting people and great experiences, Kanarak is a place I wish I had found a lot sooner to be honest.
Kanarak for me is a way to get away from the troubles of everyday life. To be able to meet like-minded people who are accepting of one another in a fun environment that is inviting no matter who you are. To live a fantasy that is only limited by your mind.
For me, Kanarak means fun escape and family. It is more than a larp, it's a life where you can truly be free. No stress or worry tends to follow me around. When we're all together it kinda makes everything that is going wrong or bad seem ok, and good things seem great. It does a lot for me honestly.
It's spending time with the kids and allowing them to see another side of me that they don't get to see... At LARP I'm not just "Dad" I'm a friend, and an ally to them. It also introduced me to a bunch of new friends that I wouldn't have otherwise met.
Larp is an escape from reality and a way to get rid of stress for me. It's meeting new people, helping my social anxiety, and seeing friends. Kanarak specifically to me is family. It's getting together with people I know and love, and all being goofballs.
Well I can honestly say I've learned and grown a lot with you guys and some of the bests times in my life are when we are all together.
Kanarak is an amazing experience; some days it's an explosive spell going off in your face or worse, other days you're winning a war or saving the world from an apocalypse. It was my first Larp, now it's like my second family.
Kanarak to me means a couple things. It's going to hang out with my friends and have fun. It’s a place I can get out of my comfort zone and be me. It’s a giant family coming together and excepting and supporting one another. Thank you for creating a place where I can just be myself and not care about being judged.
